Mastering Architecture: From Blueprint to Real-Life Creations

Every architecture dream begins with a blueprint. Architectural blueprints are the comprehensive drawings or plans created by the architect during the design phase. Blueprints, also known as construction drawings, date back thousands of years to ancient times. Early architectural designs have even been found in Egypt, drawn by the ancient Egyptians on papyrus paper. In later years, these drawings were made on blue cartridge paper, hence the name blueprint. Today, these designs are usually created using computer-aided design programs and comprise many things, including building dimensions, structures (such as rooms and walls), construction materials, and any important notes.

But how do architects get from the initial architecture blueprint to the final, real-world creation? Let’s explore.

Understanding the Architectural Process with JK Designs

Architecture is a process that entails many steps. When you work with the team at JK Designs, we work methodically to manage the steps between the initial blueprint design right through to the final construction. Our process follows these steps:

  1. Inception: During this stage, we meet with clients to gain an in-depth understanding of both their vision and the practical requirements needed to fulfil the brief. These meetings can last up to two and a half hours to ensure that we glean all the necessary information to create a blueprint that reflects what the client requires. Here, we will also discuss the proposed timeline and budget.
  • Concept: Next, we head to the drawing board, incorporating all the information from the meeting into a thorough architectural design. This includes 3D design, floor plans, a detailed video walk-through of the project, and a client presentation.
  • Design development and official sign-off: Once the client has seen the initial design, we give them some time to reflect on the presentation. We then offer them unlimited design changes to ensure that they are 100% happy with the blueprint. Once the client is completely satisfied, design sign-off occurs.
  • Official documentation submission: This stage is the most technical of all and requires us to handle the administrative elements of the project including council submissions. At this point, we can also create highly detailed construction drawings so that building contractors can accurately quote on the work.

Architecture entails many steps, each facilitating that gap between preliminary blueprint designs and the final product.
